Stanza 1
“Sleepers, wake for the voice’ calling!”
The watch men on the heights are crying,
“A wake, Jerusalem at last!”
Oh hear the loud midnight voices,
They call out with urgency saying;
“Come forth, you virgins, night is past!
The bride groom comes; awake,
Your lamps with glad ness take, Hallelujah!
And for his marriage feast pre- pare,
For you must go to meet him there.
Stanza 2
Zion hears the watchmen singing,
And all her heart with joy is springing;
She wakes she rises from her groom;
For her Lord comes down with-glory
He’s full of grace and ever truthful;
He’s full of light, everlasting.
Oh come, you blessed one,
God’s own beloved Son; Hallelujah!
We follow till we reach the place
Where we shall see you face to face
Stanza 3
Now let all the heav’ns adore you
And men and angels sing before you
With harp and cymbal’s clearest tone;
Made of pearl is each bright portal,
Where we shall be with choirs immortal
Of angels round your dazzling throne;
No eye has seen, nor ear
Has yet attained to hear
All heaven’s wonders.
But we know this; we’ll sing to you
A hymn of joy for ever new.
