What Is The Biblical Order Of The Family?

You may be wondering:

“What has the Bible to say on the roles of each member of a Christian family?”

Look, you would never be successful in anything if you do not know the in and out of it. The Bible says it this way in Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Knowing and having in-depth understanding of your role and responsibility at any point in time and place is power. God will reject you if you reject knowledge. It goes like this: “…because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.” The reason many divorce is because they have rejected it.

To help you enjoy your family, we will give you all the Bible verses you need to know and understand regarding your position, role and responsibilities in a family.

Let’s get started:

The 2 verses in the Bible that summarizes the Biblical order of the family are 1 Corinthian 11:3: “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” And Ephesians 5:23: “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.” Did you notice Christ is part and even the head of the Christian family? Did you also notice that children are not mentioned in the 2 verses? They are members since their parents gave birth to them.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (Ephesians 5:25).

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself (Ephesians 5:28).

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 5:4).

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife…One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (1 Timothy 3:2-6).

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22).

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (Ephesians 5:24).

Young women are to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed (Titus 2:4-5). In all her role, you realize that women are created to help men keep the home; that is…

Why God Created Woman

She was formed for man (Genesis 2:21-24); God created woman to help man. Genesis 2:18 says: “…It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an helpmeet for him.” The Hebrew word for “helpmeet” means an answering unto.

“Behind every successful man is a woman.”

Woman is God’s plan for helpmeet. She was made to answer to the heart, mental and physical needs of man. Helpmeet does not mean she is to do the work. Man does the work for her to support.

Man is a creation of love, God’s creation. God formed woman out of him. Meaning she is love, too. And they are one. That is why Ephesians 5:28 says: “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise 😉 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth (Ephesians 6:1-3).

The whole family’s role

The Scripture in Ephesians 6:5 says, “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;” So together as a family, live the Word of God. Remember, “Ye are the epistles of Christ.” Meaning, you are living letters. Acts 5:29 says it this way: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men.” Know your position, and accept it. Whoever you are required to obey with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart do it as you would obey Christ.
