The 12 Evil Spirits

Evil spirits

Be aware that evil spirits come against Christians every day. And learn how to overcome them. God said in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; so in order not to let Satan get advantage of you do not be ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11). Your difficulties are not natural because of…

1. A Familiar Spirit

This kind manifests as the spirits of fortune telling, the occult, horoscope, and astrology. God forbids man to look for answers from familiar spirits as seen in Deuteronomy 18:10-13. King Saul did not heed to God’s warning, and that separated him from the Lord. He was killed in battle as a result. Read 1 Samuel 28:7-10.

2. The Lying Spirit

This is a superstitious evil being that works with religion, and it produces vanity. Ezekiel 12:24 says, “For there shall be no more any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel.” It manifests itself as the spirit of profanity, adultery, and vanity (Jeremiah 23:14-16). Ahab, in 2 Chronicles 18:4-22, believed lying spirits, and was killed, because of that, in a battle.

3. The Spirit of Pride

We take pride in being Christians. That is good. But there is “Pride that goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” in Proverbs 16:18. This is also a religious evil being that will make you mock others, and practice self-righteousness; you focus on your abilities rather than God. Pride makes people mock the Good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. Some other manifestations of it are stubbornness, arrogance, anger, and egotism. Read Proverbs 13:10, and Proverbs 21:24.

4. The Spirit of Whoredom

This is a religious evil being that manifests as the spirit of idol worship. Its target is to bring people into error. People in fornication, for example, are never fully satisfied. They have no will of their own. The end is they become poor in all areas of their lives. They are urged to always seek for more satisfaction. And they end up in poverty. Read Hosea 4:12-13, and Ezekiel 16:28-39.

5. The Spirit of Bondage

Romans 8:15 says it this way: “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.” This kind brings about spiritual blindness (Exodus 6:9), bitterness, fear, and anxiety as its manifestation.  You are bound by this spirit if you are addicted to overeating, alcohol, sex, shopping pornography, cigarettes, and any other.

6. The Spirit of Infirmity

This kind was mentioned in Luke 13:11-12: “And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her:  and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”

7. The Spirit of Heaviness

You will find in Isaiah 61:3 that God has given Christians the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. You can be sorrowful but rejoice always. Always being gloomy, feeling hopeless, rejected, and self-pitying yourself all the time means you are influenced or afflicted by this kind. Some people never see the bright side of life because of this evil being.

8. A Jealous Spirit

It is the kind that brings with it the manifestations of the others like anger, revenge, murder, suspicion, and hatred. Proverbs 6:34-35 lets us understand its manifestations to be the others: “For jealousy is the rage of a man:  therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.” Meaning, you ought to call it what it is in order to effectively deal with it. Also read Numbers 5:14-15.

9. A Perverse Spirit

This is the demon responsible for error. God in Isaiah 19:14-15 mingled this demon in the midst of the entire people in Egypt which caused them to err in all their works. They lived in total error, and laziness. Proverbs 23:33 lets us understand that it causes man to lust after women. It is filthy; the demon responsible for making some people teaches things that are not biblical (Acts 13:10-11). Observe all those that are full of deceit and fraud. One of the easiest ways to know a person controlled by that demon is in Proverbs 14:2: “He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD:  but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.”

10. The Spirit of the Antichrist

People with this demon are against the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 4:3 says it this way: “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:  and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” Muslims, for example, say He was a prophet, not the Son of God, and that He did not die on the cross and He did not rise from the dead, too. This demon controls the religious. Note that Christianity is a relationship with God, not a religion. The religious follow sets of rules, Christians do not. They follow the leading of the Holy Ghost.

11. The Spirit of Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

The fear of God is different from this kind. Having right standing with God is the fear of God. Having that godly nature makes you desire to do the Father’s will. Right standing with God is righteousness; it is a gift to Christians, so we do not have to fear anything. Isaiah 54:14 says, “In righteousness shalt thou be established:  thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear:  and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.”

Fear started when man sinned in the beginning. Genesis 3:9-10 says, “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?  And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” It made the bones of Job shake; he trembled uncontrollably (Job 4:14). You can feel inferior, and there is worry, terror, sense of danger, fear of heights, fear of walking in darkness, timidity, ad nightmare when the demon of fear strikes. God, in Luke 1:74, wants man to serve Him without fear.

12. A Deaf and Dumb Spirit

This kind manifests as insanity, epilepsy, and suicide (Mark 9:20-26; Matthew 17:15). The person tormented by this demon wastes away, and become suicidal.
