Marriage should not be broken.

It is God’s original plan that couples remain married till death separates them. You have no excuse, even if your spouse is lazy or insults you every day. Be desirous to help each other to overcome your weaknesses. For divorce is only possible based on what Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 19:9: “except [it be] for fornication.”

Now:

Meditate on these Bible verses to rid divorce. You can also prepare yourself with them if you want to marry.

It Is Allowed

Deuteronomy 24:1: “When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give [it] in her hand, and send her out of his house.”

Deuteronomy 22:19: “And they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name upon a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife. He may not divorce her all his days.”

Deuteronomy 22:29: “Then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.”

(Note the “may not” in the last two verses)

Divorce Is Allowed Based On A Condition

Read Deuteronomy 24:1 again.

Jeremiah 3:8: “She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.” (God divorced Israel in because of adultery)

Joseph in Matthew 1:19 resolved to divorce Mary for a good reason. He thought Mary had committed adultery. And wasn’t willing to put his wife to shame.

Jesus Answers Questions On Divorce

The first question is in Matthew 19:3: “The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?” And in Mark 10:2: “And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?’”

Jesus answered and said unto them in Matthew 19:4-6 saying: “Have ye not read, that he which made [them] at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

(The two become one flesh, not one spirit. It all has to do with their blood. As Christians, we are already one in Christ)

Matthew 5:32 says, “anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” Luke 16:18 says the same thing. Read also Mark 10:11.

Matthew 19:7 has the second question: “They say unto him, why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?”

Again He saith unto them in Matthew 19:8-9: “Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.”

(Jesus said in verse 8 that Moses allowed the Israelites to divorce, not God. He, Moses, had the power to do so. And He allowed it because of the hardness of man’s heart. The verse continued to say that it was not so from the beginning. God’s intent and perfect will about marriage is established here; God does not want married couples to divorce)

Release From The Law Of Marriage

1 Corinthians 7:39: “A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.”

Romans 7:2: “For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage.”

Divorce Not An Unbelieving Spouse

1 Corinthians 7:12: “To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.

1 Corinthians 7:13: If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.”

Last 3 Important Bible Verses On Divorce

Hebrews 13:4: Marriage [is] honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

1 Corinthians 7:11: “(but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife.”
